Our Vision and Values

School Ethos

We are a multi-faith school and base our school ethos on a strong values curriculum. We focus on fostering a ‘growth mindset,’ which values effort, personal development and progress, aiming to equip children with the skills and attitudes to become life-long learners.

Our Aim

To be a school of excellence and happiness at the heart of the local community.

Everyone wants the best possible results for our children. That’s why we strive to put outstanding teaching and an inspiring curriculum at the heart of everything we do. Our new staff structure and leadership team, including some exceptional new recruits, is helping us achieve this by bringing a wealth of best practice into the school. But an excellent education is about more than academic achievement. It’s about being happy while you learn, and developing the confidence and life skills you need to fulfil your potential. School should be a place of wonder, enjoyment, opportunity and inspiration. A place where children learn to navigate the complexities of growing up and making friends, as well as wider issues like social media.

Equally importantly, we aim to give our children a strong sense of their place in, and responsibility for, the wider community. We want them to have pride in themselves, in their school, and in everything they can achieve – for themselves and for others.

Our Values

At Powell we uphold and teach the four British Values, on which we base our school ethos. These are:

  • Democracy,
  • The rule of law,
  • Individual liberty
  • Mutual respect and tolerance of those with different faiths and beliefs

As part of this, we have developed a set of school values. Each term we focus on a different value and use our assemblies and PSHE lessons to explore the value more deeply.

Our six values are:
